Groovera Reviews: Artemis "Auralei"
I cannot think of any artist in any musical genre who speaks with greater personal intimacy while at the same time writing with more innovation or style than Artemis does.
The latest release from Artemis, Auralei is another demonstration of this level of greatness, taking you on a journey into a world of artistic genius that only Artemis can host as your sonic tour guide.
A long-awaited release, Auralei will surely please the most long-standing of Artemis fans while sharing an evolution in their sound that will excite many newcomers. A bit more organic and less trip-hop by definition than previous Artemis releases, Auralei is a showcase of rare talent, true originality, superb musicianship, thoughtful songwriting and master studio production where many releases today might only cover one or two of those aspects effectively.
Beginning the voyage with the title track, "Auralei" rings of the lush beauty of a sunny winter morning after a snowfall with hints of Cocteau Twins stylings that Artemis makes all her own. "Easy" is a deliciously surreal dub that brings you into Artemis' world, evoking the complex emotions of an artist's soul while "Seven" is a poetic narrative that carries the journey through a beautiful dream within Artemis' mind's eye. "Ella" is sure to be a classic among classics within the chill-out and trip-hop spectrum of music with its multi-faceted composition and pop sensibilities...words fall short to describe and I can only recommend enjoying this, among these other fine tracks, for yourself.
As an EP offering us a preview of what is to come in the form of a full release arriving much later this year, Auralei offers us also some most refreshing remixes of tracks from previous Artemis releases, giving us some newer and tasty perspectives of some of our old favorites, thus making Auralei a must-have release regardless of things to come. If you have not already picked up a copy of Auralei, you will kick yourself for hesitating!
