Groovera is a cost-free service for our listeners but is by no means without expense. Listener support helps tremendously in keeping Groovera alive, expanding services AND without commercial interruptions. Your donations are a vital part of keeping Groovera in full operation to serve you and to continue building the soundtrack for your life!

Since August 2003, Groovera has brought you award-winning and critically-acclaimed chillout radio programming. Groovera's audience and service offerings have grown tremendously from our humble beginnings and continues to grow with several future channels in incubation and increasing demand. With the costs that come with success and growth, our current overhead expenses do not include the proposed royalty rates that may be imposed by SoundExchange, which will multiply Groovera's existing overhead expenses six-fold and will literally exponentiate our current budget requirements. However, as of June 2008, listener support has only ever been sparse at best and usually only off-setting approximately 5% to 15% of our total monthly overhead costs.

Throughout Groovera's years of service, Groovera founder and manager Tim Quigley has been covering the cost differential out-of-pocket by himself with the wages earned from ordinary 9-to-5 day jobs as a high-tech consultant in addition to his full-time-plus-overtime efforts operating Groovera as a one-man team. (As of July 2008, we now have volunteers to help - YEAY!) Nonetheless, Groovera has remained from its beginnings a formidable competitor to its peers that have venture funding, large teams of staff, and/or endless amounts of bandwidth provided to them free-of-charge by the world's largest media conglomerates. Groovera simply offers the highest quality chillout radio programming available.

Unlike our web radio peers, Groovera has never at any time made an overt request for listener support prior to July 10, 2008. Instead we have merely declared ourselves "listener supported" and have gladly accepted the well-appreciated-but-few contributions of only 99.999% of our audience, adding up to only eight listeners a month who had ever come forward with monetary contributions out of the hundreds of thousands who tune in monthly. We got a tremendous response to cover us for mid-July through mid-August 2008 (this time, close to sixty listeners out of the many) but still we have to continue asking for your help in order to cover future months which do not yet have budget for operation.

We have gone through many budgetary "tight spots" in the past and have independentally found personal financial means to sustain Groovera without requesting anything from you, our audience. But in June 2008, we had finally reached the limits to autonomously sustain Groovera without the active financial support of our audience. Many listeners previous had "shared the love" immensely with recurring donations but we still observe multitudes more listeners every day who appreciate what we do but have never interacted with us at all. We know that you are out there, you value our service and would feel a loss without us!

Groovera faced the shut-off of our MP3 streaming services in July 2008. Simply put, we no longer had the inside budget to cover the MP3 streams independently no matter what we cut back upon to that point and to this date our sacrifices remain unspoken. We still cannot cover this budget with our own day-to-day earnings at day jobs. With the potential loss of the MP3 streams, we weighed the backup option of continuing only our AAC+ streams as they are much lower-cost to operate, even though they are far higher quality than the MP3 streams (in fact, we only listen to the AAC+ streams ourselves). But iTunes does not support AAC+ and our Mac users only have VLC Player as a viable option. And no, we do not receive subsidies or support from Apple, iTunes, AOL/Time-Warner or anybody at all, such is the challenge of a grassroots independent media entity such as Groovera.

Groovera is very proud to be a true independent radio station who serves your need, presenting many independent artists you would never hear elsewhere in radio. Nearly all of the artists we showcase are independent and are on the cutting-edge, having no commercial audience at this time. These artists are not rich, nor are they "rock stars", and are people just like you and us who are doing all they can every day to earn a living, especially in these times. Just like Groovera, they are exercizing their craft out of love for doing it. Regardless, the "chillout" music genre is only beginning to emerge in the United States. Few major media entities showcase it at all and nobody specializes in chillout music like Groovera. We are the world's first radio station to bring you multiple authoritative chillout radio channels and we still have more to come. Any one of these channels present formats viable as future FM radio, satellite or cable radio formats.

Think of Groovera as an aural art gallery. We do this in true independence with no payola, no subsidies, nothing. Ever. We play only the GOOD STUFF and what we do is absolutely REAL and unadulturated by big media or any outside influence. Groovera plays what you hear out of taste and vision without no obligations to anyone except our audience. We serve you the aficionado's chillout mixes and we are esteemed to be the radio destination for those who have outgrown the experimental formats that many other radio stations present. Some of those peers even make claims to place themselves in our league of independent media and yet are thoroughly subsidized with free bandwidth from major media, among other things. Those who are much larger than us do not focus upon or specialize in chillout radio, regardless.

Groovera pays out of our own pockets to provide you with our service...every last effort of every last hour of the personal time we have and with very few exceptions. Groovera stands alone - we may stand TALL but we need our audience to stand with us, too! It is time for us to stir your passion because we need you as much as you need us!
